Mince Pies and Losing Control

It's approaching that time of year when quite frankly we want to put the candles on, get into our dressing gowns and slippers and snuggle down with a good book or watch a box set. We need that rest and relax time as the nights draw in. To take advantage of the winter months aim for a set time to go to bed. Our bodies love routine and our circadian clock will thank us for it. We can crave sugary, stodgy foods and it is very easy to open that packet of mince pies or chocolate biscuits and guzzle more than we intended. Allow yourself a bit of what you fancy but be mindful that you control what you eat .

As we constantly graze we lose the ability to work out whether we are hungry or not.

Tips to stop overeating.

  1. Ask yourself if its mouth hunger or stomach hunger. Quite often we just eat mindlessly and don't appreciate the flavours or indeed require the food.

  2. Distract yourself for 10 minutes and then see if you are still hungry(bet you will have forgotten it!)

  3. Could you be thirsty?

  4. Make a list and plan what you buy ( resist the offers and extras)

  5. Eat mindfully ( slow down your eating and plate your food up in the kitchen)

Make sure that half your plate is vegetables and use that turkey to make a delicious and nourishing bone broth for soup. Christmas can be stressful so don't let the mince pies win !
